Another Hydro Power Generation in Pakistan

7.64 MW Marala Hydro Power Project – (MHPP) – By Engr Nadeem Malik

Pakistan has been facing energy crisis since long time back. This will have to be resolved to bring the country out of this situation. Well, an initiative in this regard to resolve this problem has been taken by the Government of Punjab in form of constructing Hydro Power Projects to boost the Country’s economy by uplifting the Electricity Production rate.

The Marala Hydropower Project (MHPP) is one of them. It is a run-of-river type hydropower plant with ultimate capacity of about 7.64 MW located along Upper Chenab Canal, Marala Barrage, in District Sialkot, Punjab. The Hydropower plant is being constructed on the right bank of Upper Chenab Canal and is situated at RD 002.500 downstream of UCC Regulator, about 25Km from Sialkot City, Punjab Province, Pakistan. The construction of Marala Hydro Power Project was initiated in 2014.
