In the following lines, I am going to share about my journey to Gold Medals. Obviously, it started from my early age when I was brought up in a conventional religious and educational environment under strict observation of my grandparents, away from my parents, in a small village of Gujranwala. I was not an extraordinary boy but was made excellent by efforts of my grandfather. One day, during those years of my basic education, once I was travelling with my uncle to an adjoining village of Lahore through Grand Trunk (GT) Road, I saw Punjab’s best and world’s recognized university named University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore. While taking a look at the building, I said to my uncle ‘main iss university mein admission loon ga INSHALLAH’ (I will get admission in this university, with the consent of Allah). So, that was my first aim in life. After 7th standard, I was shifted to my parent’s home in the city where I completed my intermediate from a private college and secured 852 marks out of 1100 in Board. These marks were not enough to get admission in UET Lahore. In order to realize my dream, I repeated one subject and improved 64 marks and finally got admission in UET Lahore in 2013. Luckily, I was in RCET campus from where I could get home daily.
The early days of my university life were very disappointing as the life at campus was entirely different then what I used to assume it. I couldn’t settle down in beginning, resulting in very low GPA. But after my first year of studies, I started enjoying my university life and also worked hard for securing good GPA. After my first year, it came to my mind that at least one Gold Medalist should be from my class and the day after that day, I started asking to my first year’s topper class mates to work hard and put in more efforts to get a Gold Medal. In final year, I chose the best teacher in my department who was very competent especially in terms of final year project (FYP). The title of my FYP was “Protection of Three Phase Synchronous Generator by using Optimal Techniques”. I successfully completed my project, passed out and left the campus. I joined a job and was in Islamabad when I received a call from my session mate who shared that my name was in the medal winner’s list. That was really a sensational and unbelievable moment for me. On November 16, 2018, I got two Gold Medals from the then Interior Minister of Pakistan Engr Ahsan Iqbal. While receiving medals, then only thing that was striking my mind was “do good for other and have good”. In all this, prayers of my grandparents, parents and elders were always there which made me reach at this level.
