SENATE approves COMSATS University Bill
The Senate session chaired by Chairman Senate, Senator Raza Rabbani, held on Tuesday, 19-12-2017, approved the bill to grant university status to COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. The new university will now be called COMSATS University. The bill was presented by Federal Minister for Science & Technology and Chancellor, CIIT, Rana Tanveer Hussain whose efforts for presenting the bill and seeing it through were appreciated on this momentous occasion by Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Senator Mushahid Hussain and Senator Mian Ateeq.
Chancellor, CIIT, Rana Tanveer Hussain also acknowledged the efforts of Secretary MoST, Yasmin Masood and the Ministry of Science & Technology as well as consistent efforts of Rector CIIT, Professor Dr. Raheel Qamar, Executive Director COMSATS and Founding Rector CIIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, Registrar, Dr. Professor Izhar Hussain, senior management and the faculty in granting of the university status.
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology traces its roots from 1998 when it established its first campus at Islamabad. Since then, it has established six picturesque campuses at Lahore, Abbottabad, Attock, Vehari, Sahiwal and Wah – leading the higher education sector in research, innovation and commercialization. The university currently offers more than 100 degree programs with strong industry-academia linkages and international collaboration with universities in six continents. The granting of university charter for CIIT is a significant milestone in the university’s quest to become the nation’s premier higher education powerhouse with strong international standings.
