International Women’s Day was celebrated at PCRWR Headquarters Islamabad in collaboration with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Technology Times, UNDP etc.Speaking on the occasion guest of honour Ms. Bushra Mirza, Professor and Chairperson. Department of Biochemistry Quaid-e-Azam University emphasized those women empowerment is directly related to development of society. She also said if there is a woman behind every successful man, the supportive role of a man (father, brother, husband, son, colleague etc) in the life of a successful woman cannot be ignored. Mr. Abdul Wahid Jasra conveyed the message of Dr. David James Molden, Director General (ICIMOD) and highlighted the role of ICIMOD in introducing woman participation in the development programmers of ICIMOD, especially in mountainous areas, as women living in mountainous areas of the country are poorest of the poor. Earlier Ms. Lubna Naheed Bukhari in her opening remarks said that International Women’s Day belongs to all communities everywhere – governments, companies, charities, educational institutions, networks, associations, the media and more. “With the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report findings telling us that gender parity is over 200 years away – there has never been a more important time to keep motivated and Press for Progress”, she further added. Speakers from Technology Times, PARC, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, Islamic International University exchanged their views. A number of students also participated.
